Printmaking
For a once a year printmaking experience, this is a great workshop. Choose between aluminum tape lithography, dry point etching, collograph and block printing. We have a new mini-press that makes amazing 2 inch etchings and new etching tools that make dry point easier. Enrollment is limited to allow easy access to material and presses. To enable more printing, come with ideas and small drawing...even mini book ideas. $ 300
Drawing Nature
This year, in our popular workshop, we review Susan's step-by-step approach to drawing sensitive nature drawings. This approach gives you a deep connection to your subject that feels great, produces a beautiful drawing that shows you that you CAN draw. For more advanced students we will expand your skills to include exquisite detailed ink pieces mixed with loose watercolor, resulting in life like energetic drawings or a lovely contemporary botanical pen and ink style done with Asian inks. $ 300
Mixed Media
This year's mixed media workshop deepens your work in what is already a fun and free style of working. The first piece is a painting on canvas that takes you through 7 steps of creative compositions, gels and molding paste, paper painting, ghosting, color shaping, and mark making. The second project, if time permits, riffs off music and involves using connections to generate good ideas. $ 300
Printmaking
This is another great experimental workshop. We continue most of the methods from last year — aluminum tape lithography, dry point, chine collé, and block prints . . . with some new techniques. This year we add collagraph plates! Day one is learning and experimenting. Day two is using that to make beautiful and unique prints. All methods are explained with handy reference sheets available. Returning artists can work independently as desired. . . . $ 300
Mixed Media
This is a super fun class that starts with finding a subject from close by, quickly painting it, and then learning a fun technique for transforming it into mixed media piece. Feel free to bring your own pictures of animals or landscapes to work from. If you love fun papers and stuff, this is for you! . . . $ 300
Encaustic
This workshop uses encaustic paint (wax and resin) heat, fire, and techniques for a totally fun creative time. This year we revisit all the basics fromlast year but add; transferring images, monotypes, and origami encaustics. As requested last year, it is now a two-day workshop. Day one is to experiment and learn. Day two gives you time to use what you learn. . . . $ 300
Drawing Nature
Research has shown that the act of drawing has the same benefits as meditating. When you draw natural things you almost always learn something interesting. Plus, you are practicing seeing, and seeing makes our time on this planet richer. We do all this with no stress, guided drawing projects of natural objects . . . seashells . . . mushrooms . . . leaves . . . flowers, and more—or bring your own nature to draw if you choose. . . . $ 300
Markmaking & Abstract Painting
This workshop is about action. We will do three guided paintings to practice relaxed markmaking in acrylic. Then, while that’s drying, we make patterned papers, find words and make handmade stamps. Finally, using all that plus other fun techniques, we develop, layer, and finish our three painted pieces. . . . $ 300
Figure Drawing Reboot
This workshop is the Susan version of the Nicolades approach to drawing that benefits all artists…abstract to realistic. It is part meditation, part classical skill building and a whole lot of switching out of different ways of perceiving. The end result is an increase in confidence and flow for your art. You don’t have to be interested in figure drawing to benefit from this yearly reboot! . . . $300
Intuition; Use it or Lose it
Creative hand pulled Prints, Drawing and Mixed Media combine to create a workshop intended to get you out of ruts, broaden your comfort zone and get you trusting your own creative instincts and intuition. . . . $300
Juice up your Creativity with fun art stuff
This workshop speaks to the crazy effect new mediums and materials can have on creatives! This will be a repeating workshop but this time the fun stuff is encaustics! This juicy paint medium uses wax, resin, heat and fire…it’s a no-fail good time! (Encaustic workshops have a $25 additional materials fee.) . . . $325
The Tao of Art
This workshop uses nature, koans, haiku poetry, music & more to deepen your art experience. The projects are great exercises for all types of artists to reuse to stay connected to your art and yourself. Materials ─ mixed media, ink & paint. . . . $300
Finding Heart and Gut through Abstraction
We start with fun warm up drawing exercises. Then, graduate to small pieces with fun techniques that heighten your sense of expression. Last, is a great final piece that holds meaning for you. Materials; charcoal, pencil, and paint. . . . $300
